Galamsey Fight: Stop The 'Name Calling' And 'Knee-Jerk Reactions' - Ursula Owusu 'Pounces' On NDC & Co

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications, has condemned the name calling of President Nana Akufo-Addo in connection with the galamsey ongoing in Ghana.

There is currently a rise of aggression towards the government for failing to clamp down on galamsey activities as these activities have contaminated the water bodies and pose serious health threat to the citizens.

There are also reports of danger from the Ghana Water Company Limited and Ghana Health Service regarding the impact of galamsey on the nation.

The water company warns of an imminent water shortage while the health service complains about some health complications arising in illegal mining communities.

The President is therefore under mounting pressure to ban small-scale mining with the National Democratic Congress leading the call for the youth to rise against the government to solve the galamsey menace.

But Ursula Owusu has rebuked the opposition party and those who have suddenly found their voices, hence pointing fingers at the President and calling him all sorts of names.

In an interview on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, the Minister warned; "Let's stop this name calling. Let's stop this finger-pointing."

She noted that the galamsey has degenerated not because of one man's fault but rather the entire nation must own up and accept responsibility.

She stressed; "We must all admit our fault because we have all contributed to where we are today . . . Let's have a holistic approach; knee-jerk reactions never work . . . We should enforce our laws to the letter."
