Dennis Miracle Aboagye, Director for Local Government and rural Development, has stated that no president has been able to implement measures and fought against the menace of galamsey as much as what the current President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo has done since he assume the seat as President.
According to Miracles Aboagye, the call for an industrial strike by Organised Labour because the President is perceived to have done nothing in combating the menace of galamsey is flawed.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia morning show on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Miracles Aboagye maintains that President Akufo Addo was punished because of the action he took against the menace of galamsey.
“Today, you have a president in Nana Akufo Addo, who has formed Operation Vanguard, Operation Halt in addition to the numerous machines and excavators he has seized and destroyed all in his quest to deal decisivekly with the issue of galamsey. Consider the number of galamseyers who have been incarcerated and those who were severely punished for engaging in the illegal activities; these and many others are the ways he was able to bring the fight to the fore front to the extent that he was severely punished in the 2020 elections.
"No President has done much as much as Nana Akufo Addo has done when it comes to the fight against Galamsey.”
He further explained that, anyone who suggests that the Presidential Candidate for the New patriotic (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should be voted against because his boss, Nana Akufo Addo lost the fight against Galamsey, then that individual is not telling the truth.
“If you say that Bawumia should be voted against because Nana Akufo Addo’s government lost the fight against Galamsey, then you are not telling the truth. Then it clearly means that the fight against galamsey is not your main aim. You have a parochial interest”, he added.
“Amongst the Presidential candidates on the ballot, Akufo Addo is not there. It is only Mahama who has had the opportunity to fight against galamsey but failed to do so,” Mr. Aboagye revealed.
Mr. Miracles Aboagye, who is also the spokesperson for the Bawumia campaign team argues that, why would anyone want to vote against Dr. Bawumia when the person in whose tenure, the galamsey was taking place on water bodies in the full glare of everyone but could not do anything about it.
"The former President was President when galamsey was thriving on river bodies. There is no record of specific interventions put in place to fight the canker until the coming of President Akufo Addo" he said.
