Popular Ghanaian actress, author and producer, Yvonne Nelson is set to embark on another demonstration to express her displeasure for the resurgence of the erratic power outages commonly known in the Ghanaian local parlance as ‘Dumsor’.

Yvonne Nelson, in a press release dated April 30, stated her intentions behind the demonstration adding that, it is one way of holding leaders accountability.

In an address to all Ghanaians, Yvonne Nelson said, "It is with a heavy heart and deep concern for the welfare of our dear nation that I address the resurgence of the power crisis, commonly known as ‘dumsor’, in Ghana. As a proud Ghanaian and advocate for positive change, I never anticipated the return of such a debilitating issue, let alone another prolonged duration."

It is recalled that in 2015, during the tenure of former President John Mahama’s tenure, the country was plunged into an unpalatable darkness which affected all aspects of the economy.

During that era, celebrated Ghanaian actress, together with big wigs in the entertainment industry and corporate Ghana embarked on a demonstration dubbed ‘DumsorMustStop’. Some of the participants in the demonstration included, Kofi Bentil of Imani Ghana, Prince David Osei, D Black, Van Vicker, Efya, Sarkodie, Barima Sidney, DKB amongst others.

Yvonne Nelson is back again with another demonstration against the inadequate power supply she spearheaded back in 2015 which saw the NDC ousted from office, to demand accountability from the ruling NPP government to find solution to the resurgence of ‘dumsor’.

"I am aware that since the 2015 campaign, some individuals including Kofi Bentil who supported us on the legal front from Imani Ghana have now aligned themselves with the current government. However, the fight against Dumsor transcends political affiliations, and we must unite as Ghanaians to address this pressing issue.

"In chapter 11 of my book, ‘I am not Yvonne Nelson,’ I detailed the events of the 2015 campaign, shedding light on the behind –the-scenes efforts and collaborations that were instrumental in its success. Some of these included attaining a permit for the DumsorMustStop Vigil from Ghana Police Service at the Police Headquarters in Accra, meeting with the Ga Wulomo to seek permission tom hold the vigil on the Ga land etc. These were led by Imani Ghana’s Kofi Bentil who was the team’s legal representative. It was a collective effort, and I want to reiterate that I cannot do this alone."

Yvonne Nelson pointed out that she has reached out to a number of key individuals form Imani Ghana, including Kofi Bentil and Franklin Cudjoe via whatsapp text, but she is yet to receive a response regarding their interest in supporting another vigil.

She is therefore, extending invitation to all well-meaning Ghanaians, organizations, and legal professionals who are willing to join her in pushing for meaningful action to address the power crisis confronting the country Ghana.

Yvonne added that, together with cooperate Ghana, the leaders will be compelled to prioritise the needs of Ghanaian over their parochial interest.  

"Together, we can make our voices heard and compel our leaders to prioritise the needs of the Ghanaian people. I appeal to lawyers, volunteers, and concerned citizens to contribute their expertise and support in planning and executing this event because Yvonne Nelson can’t do it alone’,’ she stressed.
